Robert L. Galligan
Robert L. Galligan came to the Valley in 1964 as a teacher and coach with the Mission
Independent School District. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the
University of Tennessee in 1963 and a Master's Degree in Education from Memphis
State University in 1967. Bob attended law school at St. Mary's University in San
Antonio and received his J. D. Degree in 1973. He was the Articles Editor of "The Law
Journal" (1972-73) and recipient of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel's
"Outstanding Law Journal Article Award" in 1972.
Bob entered practice with the law firm of Rankin, Kern & Martinez, in McAllen,
specializing in litigation. He joined Forrest L. Jones in the practice of law in early 1975
and became a partner in Smith, McIlheran, Lauderdale & Jones in 1976. He took a
leave of absence to become Associate Professor of Law at St. Mary's University during
the years 1980-82. He taught trial advocacy, legal research and writing, and coached
moot court and mock trial teams. He is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of Texas and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Bob is a former Director of the City National Bank in Weslaco and is a former member
of the Donna (past president) and Weslaco Rotary Clubs. He is a former director and is
currently a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.*
